Texas Gulf Coast Sea Shells

Did you know that Texas has a State shell? Well, we do. It's common name is "Lightning Whelk." For you serious "shell folks" its scientific name is "busycon perversum pulleyi." The Alvin Museum Gift Shop has added Texas seashells as part of its inventory. Some of the smaller Whelk shells are available along with packets of common shells found on the Texas coast.

The Gift Shop has many other local, county and Texas items of interest for sale. Come visit us. The Gift Shop is inside the Alvin Historical Museum located at 300 W. New Books in the Gift Shop

The Museum Gift Shop offers a variety of items for sale including historical memorabilia, artworks, and gift items. Most popular is the selection of books by local and area writers and books about Brazoria County and Texas. Dr. Bill Crider has provided more copies of his Sheriff Dan Rhodes mysteries including Red, White & Blue. Also, one copy of We'll Always Have Murder, a Humphrey Bogart mystery. New to the gift shop is a book by Cathy Nelson Dodson, an Alvin High alumni, Miss Cornett's Courtship. Cathy used a collection of loveletters her great grandfather wrote as the backdrop for this love story.

There are 2 copies of Ida Blanchette's limited and out of print Babe on the Bayou. There were only 1000 copies of Ms. Blanchette's book printed in 1979. It has become a collectible book and very difficult to find copies.

Located in the Alvin Historical Museum, the Alvin Museum Gift Shop is open Thursdays, Fridays, and the first Saturday of each month from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. There is a charge to tour the museum, but no charge to visit the gift shop.
